OF THE BLUEGRASS

ANCHORS AWEIGH!
Our monthly schools are setting sail the S.S. Shaved Ice, where students will explore new islands filled with lessons in gratitude, teamwork, humility, generosity, initiative, resourcefulness accountability, and empowerment!
Kona will help students of all ages learn that these character traits are more than just words — they’re life skills that help shape how children grow, lead, and interact with the world around them.

MEET
LEILANI LENS
Seek, Discover, Do!
Aloha, adventurers! I’m Leilani Lens, the sparkly magnifying glass who lives on the bright and beautiful Initiative Island! My home is filled with palm trees, sandy paths, and seashells that shimmer in the sun — but my favorite thing to discover here is opportunity!
You see, I have a special gift — my lens helps me spot possibilities that others might miss. When everyone else is waiting for something to happen, I look a little closer and say, “Hmm… what can I do to get things started?” That’s what taking initiative is all about — seeing a need, stepping up, and taking action without waiting for someone to tell you what to do.
Every day, I explore the island with curiosity and courage. Sometimes I help a friend find a better way to solve a problem. Other times I notice something that needs fixing and jump right in to help. Whether I’m searching for hidden treasures or bright ideas, I’ve learned that the biggest discoveries come when you take the first step!
I always tell my young explorers, “Don’t wait for answers to come to you — go find them!” Great leaders and helpers aren’t afraid to look closely, ask questions, and try new things. When you use your “initiative lens,” you’ll start to see opportunities all around you — big and small — to make a difference.
So if you ever visit Initiative Island, look for me! I’ll be out and about, magnifying the good, spotting the brave, and cheering you on as you start your own discovery journey.
